JAC Motors is based out of Hefei, Anhui Province, China, but is moving its brand of commercial vehicles to larger markets throughout the world. In fact, JAC trucks entered the African market about 10 years ago. It was in 2001 that this company delivered some of its light-duty trucks to Algeria. Since then, somewhere around 50,000 vehicles with the brand JAC on them have been purchased by African companies since that time.
Scania JAC trucks have been sold in over 30 countries around the world including Morocco, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa. Since the introduction of light-duty trucks in the African markets, this company has expanded its product line to include medium and heavy-duty trucks along with passenger vehicles as well. This is likely due to the fact that this brand has paid close attention to producing high-quality and well engineered products throughout its life.
Even international companies who operate businesses in Africa are increasingly turning to this Chinese automaker when they are seeking vehicles with which to outfit fleets. One such company is Algeria’s branch of Coca Cola which has selected JAC to supply its light trucks. Local management was quick to say that it was impressed with the turbocharged engines that delivered high performance.
JAC delivered its first line of passenger vehicles to the markets in Africa in 2008, and many of these were quickly taken up by local taxi companies throughout the area. These fleet vehicles were the J3 as well as the J3 Turin.
One thing that must be mentioned about this company is that it offers excellent service which has contributed to its success in Africa. This service is supported by the large network of dealerships that now exist in Africa. Along with dealers, there are also numerous service facilities and readily available spare parts distribution centers. One should not fail to remember that this company also offers a service month campaign once each year to allow customers to receive free checkups for their vehicles.
JAC is a leader in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction not just sales. There are now three assembly plants for JAC products operating in Africa. Locations for these plants are Morocco, Ethiopia and Egypt. These plants produce A-class vehicles, light and heavy duty trucks, SRV and commercial vehicles. Other assembly plants are being planned for Kenya and South Africa.
